Although the regardsedgbaston name suggests a nostalgic film about part of one's youth, set in 1930s Edgbaston, the regardsedgbaston name actually belongs to an Indian restaurant. The regardsedgbaston site describes its storefront as "Authentic Indian cuisine in a stylish setting," and once one gives up wondering why anyone would name an Indian restaurant "Regards," it sounds like an interesting experience. White-tablecloth Indian restaurants generally offer lengthy and intricate meals, studded by small dishes of unusual condiments like tamarind sauce, the minty yogurt-based raita, chutneys of various types (mango is particularly delicious), and lime pickle. They don't serve just dinner, but an entire tasting experience. The Indian subcontinent is extremely large and culturally varied, so there's a vast number of different items available to regardsedgbaston, and accordingly the restaurant has a huge a la carte menu. If you're simply not enthralled by the prospect of combing through the entire laundry list, then you will never know what you're missing when you punt and order regardsedgbaston's "Gourmet Set Meal" (forty pounds for two, seventy-eight pounds for four). If you have ten or more people at table, none of whom are vegetarians, go ahead and try the nineteen-pounds-per-head "Banquet." It will be an education to see what the proprietors of regardsedgbaston, who presumably know their Indian stuff, select for you.
If you have any feeling for cuisine in general, though, you'll not be able to resist the appeal of setting aside some time to review all the regardsedgbaston menu options individually. They're grouped not only by course but also by type of cooking (tawa, tandoori, seafood, balti, so-called "birynai" and vegetable dishes). The tawa is technically a sort of skillet, an instrument for preparing chapattis, and regardsedgbaston here means items made using the tawa. Similarly, regardsedgbaston uses the word tandoori, a type of oven, to describe dishes it cooks therein. And the balti is a type of two-handled wok used to prepare regardsedgbaston's "balti" dishes. There's an unfortunate howler in the typography, unfortunately: the word is not "birynai," it is properly spelled biryani. If regardsedgbaston cannot spell the word for that type of dish, one has legitimate cause for wondering whether they can cook it.
