Cosmetics are used to enhance a woman’s appearance and self-image. Various products are used, in a variety of applications, to target specific areas of improvement. The area around the eyes is a popular canvas for artificial improvement. Women pluck their eyebrows to create precisely the angle and shape that they find most pleasing. The area immediately proximate to the eyebrow, between the lash and the brow, is the area where eye shadow is applied. Eye shadow is a shimmering powder that is used to highlight the eyelid region. Different strategies are employed by different women, under various circumstances. Sometime a natural palette of tans and other earth shades is used to add subtle contrast and fortification to natural features. Other occasions demand a sultrier palette of gray and charcoal hues. The darker colors serve to project a smoldering come hither appearance that is appropriate with eveningwear. Some women opt for a more colorful and playful presentation. Various shades of eye shadow are marketed that mimic the color of the eye’s iris. Blue eyed women may use a blue shade of eye shadow to add additional pop to the natural eye color. While many women change-up the look of their eye shadow, it is not uncommon for a woman to settle on a standard protocol and stick with it. The results of this strategy are mixed. The look may be appropriate in some settings, but less so in others. For this reason, it is advisable for a woman to master several application strategies.
Eyelashes are another female feature that can be artificially altered to improve their appearance. By enhancing the length and volume of her eyelashes, a woman can draw additional attention to her facial features. Mascara is used to add additional mass and thickness to eyelashes. The dark colored enhancer is sold in a lipstick shaped tube, with a pull out applicator. To apply the product, the applicator is drawn from the tube covered in mascara. The applicator is fashioned with a curved and bristled end that mimics the curve of the eyelash. By drawing the brush over the lash, a woman transfers the mascara from the applicator to the eyelash. Once the product has dried, a woman can lay down another coat to achieve even greater volume.
