The idea of shopping on Flowers Direct is simply gift selection: these floral arrangements are all meant to be purchased by one person and given to another. Therefore, in every transaction there are two parties which Flowers Direct tries to satisfy, and to make that task easier Flowers Direct has applied a remarkable amount of taxonomy to its offerings. Do you want your floral gift delivered on the same day, the next day, or once each week? Are your flowers intended for a funeral, a birthday, should they say Luxury or Value, are they that very special category the Mothers' Day gift? Flowers Direct goes on in that vein, covering pages and pages of possibilities. That sounds like it would be helpful, because no one wants to send a sympathetic bouquet or a formal grouping suitable for a church service on a happy occasion, but even more helpful is the close correspondence between flower arrangements and their names. Perfect Surprise contains the unexpected element of irises, Pink Candy flowers are round and come in the colors of confectionery, and Freesia Zest has angular, mobile grassy stems swinging out from its sweet-scented center.
These are not expensive bouquets, either, so if the delivery is half as good as the implied promise of the photograph, you've received full value. Even when Flowers Direct puts a foot wrong, they do so in an amusing and endearing manner. For example, the "Sweet sunbeam - Marie Curie" arrangement, designed to raise funds for charity, looks distressingly glowing and far too radiant to be coupled with the name of a scientist who died of radiation poisoning. But is that funny? Of course it is, and at twenty-six pounds fifty, you can afford to share this joke with family and friends. And it's impossible not to cast a covetous eye at Flowers Direct's autumnal bouquets, fiery explosions of petals burning in russet foliage.
