It's difficult to place the flexicover site, which sells travel insurance and is owned by Citybond Holdings PLC, a company run by an accountant named Mansukh Ganatra. This type of product used to be sold in airport vending machines, and its purchase was more of a family travel ritual-- a means of recording some financial last words-- in the event of an air collision. The seller wasn't the focus of attention in buying that travel insurance, but there a few clues on the flexicover sites suggesting caution in choosing this product. It's a little too gimmicky for an insurance sales site-- prize drawings, discounts for registration, and so on-- and it makes rather a point of being regulated by the FSA (Financial Services Authority), which is a requirement for insurance sales. The flexicover site also posts information about what happens in the event of a company default, and directs customers to the website of that national agency. Traditional travel insurance covers one trip for one person, but flexicover offers an assortment of other insurance plans (annual multi-trip for one person or a family, for example) that involve debiting the customer's account over prolonged periods of time, and it's easy to see how flexicover could extend its billing into serious customer obligation territory.
flexicover's main selling point is its low prices, and looking at its eyebrow-raising site in that light makes a little more sense... until one investigates the pedigree of Citybond Holdings. Let's not mince words: there is none to be found, and the quality of the questionable low-end sites offering various flexicover products (a sample quote recommends the customer's chosen insurance policy is "back up" by a reliable firm, and suggests a policyholder with a changing itinerary "sea how flexible your travel insurer can provide") compounds that problem. Who is Citybond's founder Ganatra? Well, according to his web promoter he's all things good and sound to be found in English business, but since said promoter is also a past master of resume puffery, it's difficult to say. The good news is that flexicover hasn't obtained too much negative press, with the notable exception of the sad case of a customer whose medical claim was denied.
