The fit2bseen site is remarkably straightforward, offering eight brands of ladies' exercise clothing. The gear and the site itself are altogether generic and functional offerings, the promise of "gorgeously stylish" apparel notwithstanding, and the prices are accordingly moderate. fit2bseen was founded in 2007 by Sue Kingston, a former human resources manager with, interestingly, a degree in hotel management. It's immediately obvious that fit2bseen's greatest strength as a business is Kingston herself, because although the fit2bseen concept and execution are a study in the unobtrusive, Kingston's networking skill (plus the prices) are keeping the business comfortably above water. More appealing and distinctive online shopping sites, even in the active fitness wear niche, receive much less attention on the web than plain vanilla fit2bseen, and the website demonstrates exactly how she works that trick. The fit2bseen site is directed as much at related businesses as it is at shoppers, which is an extremely unusual, even audacious, strategy.
All requests from the press, for example, are not directed to an internal e-mail address but to the name and address of someone at the same company that pulled the site itself out of the box and fired it up (a marketing agency, not a design business). One can tell because the site designer is credited throughout the site, and those little tradeoffs no doubt earn fit2bseen a favorable deal in terms of site maintenance costs. It's personal and small-scale, but if fit2bseen can keep its head down and weather the economic uncertainty currently besetting the business world, these informal partnerships with other entrepreneurs will stand Kingston in good stead.
