As the name might suggest, this place is incredibly cool. 22below offers a small, exclusive bar setting that focuses on well-crafted drinks and a private, speakeasy, 20’s New York feel. Genuine to its style, even the entrance of Carnaby street is so discreet that casual passerby may miss it. As you’re strolling the streets of London, there’s nothing like excitement and intrigue of dipping into a hole in the wall, back-room style lounge. When you do, you’ll discover that this bar has intimate decor, a tiny, stylish bolt-hole of a bar, and they’re serious about their music and drinks. A skilled DJ contributes perfectly intuited selections that fit the mood of the establishment, ensuring the every evening feels like a comfortable, modern reliving of a classic feel.
An independent establishment, opened in 2004 by Tim Schofield, the bar now attracts regular from CNN media and others who are drawn the cozy lounge feel. The menu was devised by the owner, and features imaginative cocktail recipes with a variety of new liqueurs, from 42 Below vodka in a Green Hornet and the Agavero liqueur in a DirtySanchez, to the South Gin and Kauffman and Ciroc vodkas. These classy cocktails are actually offered at a reasonable price as well. The menu also features an innovate, well-executed menu of Asian appetizers and savoury plates.
Not only do the drinks and the music contribute to the classic feel, but this small space serves as an arty photo gallery, with occasional short films running across the plasma-screen TVs on the wall. Make a reservation for a table at no charge, just follow the policy of calling the restaurant if you’re unable to make it, you’re delayed, or your number of guests change. The entire room is available for private booking on any day of the week, with special offers on Mondays and Tuesdays. The early week bookings don’t even have a minimum spending requirement. Imagine hosting your next private party in one of the trendiest bars in London, a scarlet-shaded and discreetly-lit lounge that doubles as an art gallery, bar, and restaurant.
